Save solar: Tools and templates to help stop IRA cuts

Blog Main

May 27, 2025 — UPDATE

The budget bill passed the House late last week, and the solar industry is ramping up our action. Here are four things you can do right now to help save 25D (the 30% tax credit for residential solar) before the Senate votes (timing to be determined, likely late July).

  1. District Meetings and Call Week — Week of May 26
  2. Virtual Lobbying Week — Week of June 2
  3. Lobby Day Organizing Week — Week of June 9
    • Continue calls and virtual meetings with Senators and tax and energy staff. (We have some scripts and tips below.)
  4. Lobby Day of Action in DC — JUNE 17
    • In-person meetings on Capitol Hill with Senators and their staff
    • RSVP here

If you’re anywhere close to the solar industry, you’ve heard about the recent push to eliminate many of the incentives that help homeowners go solar.

Now, none of us in the solar industry got into it because it’s easy. We’ve weathered recessions, other policy fights, inflation, high interest rates, and more.

The next fight is here. “The One, Big, Beautiful Bill” (this is the actual name), i.e. the proposed cuts to the IRA, would gut its clean energy investments and tax credits.

The cuts extend to critical programs like clean energy tax credits, advanced manufacturing tax credits, Environmental Justice Block Grants, and the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund (GGRF). This includes the 30% Investment Tax Credit that has helped make solar accessible to so many households.

So, just like before, we fight. But where do we start? You’ve come to the right place. In this article we’ll share some links to organizations that will help you make your voice heard. We’ll also provide a quick script and suggestions that you can email to your customers and prospects so they know what’s at stake. Let’s go!

These programs make solar energy more affordable and support local jobs in my community. Please oppose any efforts to repeal or reduce these vital clean energy incentives.”

Email template for your customers

If you aren’t cooking up your own efforts, good news: we’ve got you covered. Here is an email template you can send to your homeowner customers who want to see solar thrive:

Subject line: Help Protect Solar: 2 Minutes, Big Impact 🌞

Hi [Customer First Name],

We wanted to share something important with you: Congress is considering major cuts to clean energy programs, including the 25D Residential Clean Energy Tax Credit, which helps make rooftop solar affordable for people like you.

This credit, part of the Inflation Reduction Act, covers 30% of your solar installation costs. Eliminating it would make solar significantly more expensive and put thousands of solar jobs at risk. But here’s the good news: your voice matters.

Here are some ways you can speak up and protect solar. It only takes two minutes.

We’ve come a long way toward making solar accessible. Let’s not go backward.
